KENTAtaku YUTAtaku with Motofumi Yamaguchi & Mayumu Minakawa

KENTAtaku YUTAtaku is a quicksilver improv unit formed by Kodo's Kenta Nakagome and Yuta Sumiyoshi. This year, they will appear at EC as a special trio with Motofumi Yamaguchi on bamboo flutes. Joined by guest artist Mayumu Minakawa dancing to their jam session...expect the unexpected!

Noism2 x Kodo

Sakai Kagura Dance

Kagura literally means “god entertainment.” It refers to the sacred music and dances used in Shinto rituals to entertantain the gods. These arts have a long history in Japan, spanning over two centuries. During one of its 2021 tours, Kodo crossed paths with Sakai Kagura Dance Preservation Society in mainland Niigata, and introduced them to EC. Join us as we welcome the Society to Sado Island for its first-ever EC performance!

LA SEÑAS

LA SEÑAS is a percussion group that uses hand signals to communicate as they create rhythms together improvisationally. This gig promises to be unique, quick-witted, and fun for all!

Sado’s Performing Arts

Groups who uphold Sado Island’s performing arts, including onidaiko (demon drum dance), will travel door-to-door through the streets of Ogi, performing in front of homes in true festival style! Each group will end its tour at Kisaki Shrine with a performance on the Fringe stage. Come and enjoy the festive fun!

Ogi Okesa Children’s Group

This is a special performance by local children of “Ogi Okesa,” a cheerful Sado folk song and dance. If you join the Ogi Okesa Dance Circle on Saturday night, you’ll know the tune and moves already!

Niigata Taiko Teams

We launched a new initiative this year to get more taiko players in Niigata Prefecture involved in EC, helping us bring even more local flavor and good vibrations to the festival. Four teams answered our call to join in and we can’t wait to welcome them to EC 2022!
Each team will perform their own set on the Fringe stage at Kisaki Shrine, so you can enjoy their unique repertoire. On Aug. 20, three out of the teams will join Kodo on the Harbour Concert main stage to perform Kodo One Earth Music piece “Haruka." It’s going to be a wonderful collaboration!
