What will the admission process be like?

Harbour Concerts
This year, all seats are reserved at the Harbour Concerts. You will enter the venue on a first-come, first served basis and be seated according to the number on your ticket (allocated at time of purchase). Please enter the venue before the start time.

Outdoor Cinema
This event has all free seating. After the venue opens, feel free to enter the venue any time before the start time.

How do the Harbour Concert seating areas differ?

Area S is the front of the venue (closer to the stage) with lawn seating, and Area A is behind that, at the rear of the venue with chair seating. See the next section for further details about seating.

What kind of seating will be available?

The Outdoor Cinema Harbour Concerts will be held with strict COVID-19 countermeasures in place. During the screening/performance, the organizers will ensure that physical distance between people is maintained. For the Outdoor Cinema, the audience will be seated on the lawn. For the Harbour Concerts, Area S ticket holders will be seated on the lawn and Area A ticket holders will be seated on chairs.
*In Area S, each person will have a designated area of 100cm x 130cm. This venue is a park, so you will be sitting on the lawn, so please bring a picnic mat or similar to sit on. Chairs are not permitted in this area.
*In Area A, chairs will be provided. Please refrain from bringing your own folding chair.

Harbour Concert Audience FAQ

How can I help reduce the spread of COVID-19 at EC?

We kindly ask for your cooperation with the following procedures, rules, and requests at EC to help prevent droplet and contact infection.
1. Staff will check the temperature of every person at the ticket counter before selling tickets and before people enter the Harbour Market area and indoor event venues.
2. Everyone must wear a mask at all EC events. The organizers may make exceptions in certain circumstances, e.g.: outdoors when patrons have physical distance between them and they are not talking, for heat stroke prevention, for small children, etc.
3. Please wash and sanitize your hands regularly.
4. If deemed necessary on the day, please share your name and contact details with staff on arrival at the venue. (※)
5. During the cinema and concert events, please refrain from speaking loudly or cheering.
6. Please refrain from eating and drinking at the concert venues and indoor event venues. Bringing alcoholic beverages into the venues is prohibited. (However, water and soft drinks for hydration purposes will be permitted to help prevent heat stroke.)
7. When eating and drinking within the Harbour Market, please be mindful of those around you.
・There will be no alcohol sold at Harbour Market this year.
・Bringing alcoholic beverages into Harbour Market and the event venues is prohibited.
・When you are talking, please make sure you are wearing a mask.

(※) If anyone at EC is found to have COVID-19, EC Committee will share their contact details with local health care centers and public agencies as required. If a public agency directs us to contact EC ticket holders in regards to COVID-19, we will do so promptly. Your personal information will be handled in strict accordance with the Kodo Group Privacy Policy.

If you plan to attend EC in person this year, please read the EC 2022 COVID-19 guidelines. It is important that everyone who will attend understands these guidelines properly beforehand.

Will the outdoor concerts be canceled if it rains?

Concerts will proceed rain or shine. However, if the presenter deems the concert cannot be held due to foreseeable danger or possible safety concerns due to the weather conditions, the concert may be canceled or postponed. We appreciate your understanding in regards to any unexpected changes due to the above reasons.

What should I bring to a Harbour Market Concert? What items are not allowed?

Area S ticket holders will be seated directly on the lawn to watch the concert. The lawn can get damp from dew or rain, so it is a good idea to bring a picnic mat or similar to sit upon.
We also recommend bringing insect repellent, and a hat and sunscreen for the matinee performance. Bringing a raincoat just in case is a great idea, and please note that umbrellas are prohibited during the concerts as they obstruct the view of others. For the evening performances, we recommend bringing long-sleeved clothing or a shawl. Although it is mid-summer, it can get quite cold in the evenings on Sado.

Are preschoolers allowed to attend the concerts?

Yes, preschoolers (ages 5 & under) are welcome to attend with their parents/guardians and will receive free admission.

Will there be an intermission?

There will be no intermission during the Outdoor Cinema event and Harbour Concerts.

Will there be any refreshments available for purchase inside the venue?

No. Due to EC 2022 COVID-19 countermeasures, there will be no refreshment stalls set up near the audience area this year. Please refrain from eating and drinking at the Outdoor Cinema and Harbour Concert venue. (Water and soft drinks for hydration purposes will be permitted to help prevent heat stroke.) Please note that alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. For safety reasons, fragile items such as bottles or glass/ceramic cups and containers are prohibited. Trash cans and recycling bins are limited, so if possible, please take all your trash/recycling home with you. Thank you for your cooperation. If you use the trash cans inside the venues, please be sure to separate all of your trash into burnable, non-burnable, and the various types of recyclables.

Can I bring my pet to the concert?

No. Pets are not allowed to enter the Harbour Market or the Outdoor Cinema / Harbour Concert venue. (Service dogs are welcome).

Is camping allowed in Ogi Port Park?

No. Camping in Ogi Port Park/Harbour Market is prohibited.

Will there be a dance area at the concert venue?

No. Due to COVID-19 countermeasures, there will be no dance area this year.

Will there be any buses running after the concerts?

The following EC Charter and Shuttle buses will depart from Ogi after the Outdoor Cinema and evening Harbour Concerts.
EC Charter Buses from Ogi to Ryotsu / Aikawa
EC Shuttle Bus from Ogi to Sobama
Please note that the Special Fringe Event “Ogi Okesa Dance Circle” will take place in Ogi after the Harbour Market Concert on Aug. 20th (Sat). Please enjoy the fringe event as long as time permits.

Will I receive a refund if any events are canceled?

If a ticketed event is canceled before it begins, you will receive a full refund. The refund method differs depending on your ticket and where you purchased it. If a ticketed event is canceled, please pick up a “Ticket Refund Information for Canceled Events” flier from EC Info Centre and read the instructions carefully.
We will also our website with details if any events are canceled.
Please Note: If a concert has to be canceled after it has commenced, refunds will not be available.
*We cannot offer refunds related to transportation issues. Thank you for your understanding.

Testing for COVID-19 before traveling to Sado Island for EC 2022(Updated 8/18)

For my pre-EC COVID-19 test, can I do a store-bought RAT at home?

Yes, that is acceptable.

Will I need to have a result certificate that proves my test was negative?

You do not need to show proof of a negative result. After you confirm your result, please fill out the EC 2022 Pre-Departure Test Result and Health Declaration Form (online or on paper) and state the type of test and testing date

If we will board the ferry by car, how do we visit the EC 2022 Check-in Desk?

If you will board the ferry by car, please submit your EC 2022 Pre-Departure Test Result and Health Declaration Form online in advance.

Do preschoolers need to get a COVID-19 test before traveling to EC?

Please get a test for all children ages 1 and over. Babies under the age of 12 months do not need to get a test, but if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, please seek medical advice before traveling to Sado Island and/or attending EC events.

If I am coming to EC with my family or a group, do I need to submit one EC 2022 Pre-Departure Test Result and Health Declaration Form per person?

Yes. Please submit one form for every person, including children. If you use the online form (Google form), you can use the same email address multiple times. If you use the PDF form, please print enough forms for every person in your group.

EC Access/Lodging FAQ

What are my options for lodging at EC?

There are various hotels, inns and guest houses available in Ogi and further afield on Sado Island. Alternatively, you can camp at Sobama Campground, which is only 15 mins. away by shuttle bus. During EC, there will be shuttle buses to and from Sobama and charter buses running between Ogi and Ryotsu and Aikawa.

What options are there for transport around the island?

On Sado Island, there are local bus services and sightseeing taxis. During EC, there will be EC shuttle buses running in addition to local bus services. Of course, it’s easy to get around if you bring a car or bicycle, or rent one on the Island. Please note that this period is extremely busy in Japan, due to summer holidays and public holidays, so we recommend booking your seats/car space on the ferry to Sado Island and make sure your reserve any rental vehicles well in advance

Where can I purchase concert and event tickets during EC?

For the concerts and events listed below, you can purchase tickets or collect ticket orders at the EC Box Office.

Where do I go during EC to book or check-in for Sado Experience Programs?

During EC, there will be a Sado Experience Program Reception Counter at Marine Plaza Ogi, so please come here for reservations and check-in.

What should I do if I have lost any personal items, or found items belonging to someone else?

Please come to the EC Info Centre at Marine Plaza Ogi. If items have been lost at an evening event, they will be delivered to the EC Info Centre the next day. Any items that are not claimed during EC, will be kepts at the Sado Police Station.

Parking FAQ

Are parking spaces available?

There will be approximately 600 free event parking spaces near the main venue. Please feel free to drive to EC as there is plenty of parking.
We will be handing out a festival pamphlet during EC with parking areas marked on it. Come to the EC Info Centre to collect one.

Farewell Taiko (Okuri Daiko)

Will there be a Farewell Taiko this year?

Unfortunately, no. As many of you know, Kodo usually sends off the first ferry from Ogi after EC every year, playing taiko to wave off the ferry as it leaves Ogi Port. However, to avoid crowding in light of the current COVID-19 situation, we have decided not to have a Farewell Taiko this year.

We want to make sure that people who attend Earth Celebration (EC), the locals here on Sado Island, and everyone involved in the festival, are safe and feel at ease at this year’s event. So the EC Committee has created and will follow strict COVID-19 countermeasure protocols.

Code of Conduct

Earth Celebration (EC) is made possible thanks to the cooperation and understanding of countless people in the local community. We want to make sure everyone can enjoy a comfortable, accident-free festival, so please follow the guidelines outlined below to help us achieve that goal.
The consumption of alcohol and tobacco by minors is forbidden by law, as is the consumption of alcohol by anyone operating a motor vehicle. The possession of illegal substances is not tolerated at EC. Also, please refrain from illegal parking.
Please refrain from playing drums and other instruments late at night in Harbour Market, campgrounds, and in parks and public spaces around town. Please avoid having large parties in public spaces, drinking in excess, and engaging in any activity that might otherwise disturb those around you. At Harbour Market Concerts, you and your party may be asked to leave the venue if your behavior becomes disruptive to others.

Please understand that the EC Committee cannot be held responsible for any accidents, damage to property, or theft that occurs at any of the EC event sites. Please look after your personal belongings and always keep valuables with you.

Trash and recycling bins at EC venues and in surrounding areas are limited in number. Please take your trash home with you where possible. If you use the provided bins, please carefully separate your trash and recyclables.

Info Regarding Photos & Audio/Visual Recording

Harbour Concerts and Outdoor Cinema

Photography, video and audio recording, and live streamingduring these events is strictly prohibited. Anyone found to be using recording equipment of any kind, including cameras, mobile phones and devices, audio recorders, etc, will be asked to hand over their equipment until the end of the concert and to delete any recordings. Please note that audience members who refuse to follow these rules or ignore staff instructions may be asked to leave the venue.

Workshops

Photography, video and audio recording, and live streaming during workshops is strictly prohibited. After these events, you may take photographs with the instructor and the other participants, but please be considerate to others when doing so.

Fringe Performances

Photography, video and audio recording, and live streaming during Fringe Performances is permitted, but please make sure you do not obstruct anyone’s view or cause any disturbance to the performers or any members of the audience.
The same guidelines apply for Special Fringe events featuring Kodo members. However, at the request of certain Fringe performers, photography, video and audio recording may be prohibited for their performance. Please follow the instructions given by staff at each location.
Earth Celebration Committee accepts no responsibility for the usage of photographs or recordings of EC guests made by members of the public.

Photography & Filming by Official Photographers and Press

Earth Celebration Committee has official photographers capturing the festival for archival purposes, as well as for publicity and advertising for future EC events. Members of the press who apply in advance will also be taking photographs and covering the event.

There are occasions when audience members and participants at Harbour Concerts, workshops, and other locations will be photographed or filmed. Please note that some photographs by official photographers will be used by EC Committee for publicity and advertising.
